BIOGRAPHY

The soprano, Amy Rodenburg, was born and raised near Chicago. She trained in acting, singing and dancing at the Centre for Performing Arts in Banff, Canada. After winning many prizes, she was able to attend the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria for two consecutive summers in order to study singing with Martina Arroyo (Metropolitan Opera). Already at that time Amy Rodenburg was singing small roles with the two state operas of Alberta, Canada.

In 1987, she went to London, U.K. to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she took the Post Graduate Vocal Training and subsequently participated in the Opera Program. Her singing teacher was Noelle Barker. Still as a student, Amy sang at reknown adresses such as St. John’s Smith Square and the Greenwich Festival, as well as opera and oratorio performances in France and Italy.

In 1991, Hans Werner Henze invited her to sing in his opera, “The English Cat”, where the composer himself directed and conducted. The production was broadcast on German Television.

Shortly thereafter, Amy Rodenburg landed her first “fest” engagement at the Landestheater Eisenach, where she cele-brated great success as Tatyana (Eugene Onegin), La Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro), Agathe (Der Freischuetz), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), La Femme (La Voix Humaine). In Hamburg, she moved audiences with her portrayal of the Governess in Britten’s “The Turn of the Screw”. In Edinburgh, Scotland last summer, she sang the role of The Countess in “The Marriage of Figaro”.

Her concert repetoire extends from Handel to Rossini, from Villa-Lobos to Britten. As well, she sings an extensive program of musicals and operetta, which proves her enormous versatility as a performer.

Since 1995 she lives near Hamburg, Germany and enjoys a busy career as a freelance concert and opera singer.
