BIOGRAPHY
The soprano, Amy Rodenburg, was born and raised near Chicago. She trained
in acting, singing and dancing at the Centre for Performing Arts in
Banff, Canada. After winning many prizes, she was able to attend the
Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria for two consecutive summers in order
to study singing with Martina Arroyo (Metropolitan Opera). Already
at that time Amy Rodenburg was singing small roles with the two
state operas of Alberta, Canada. In 1987, she went to London, U.K. to the Guildhall School of Music and
Drama, where she took the Post Graduate Vocal Training and
subsequently participated in the Opera Program. Her singing teacher
was Noelle Barker. Still as a student, Amy sang at reknown adresses
such as St. John’s Smith Square and the Greenwich Festival, as
well as opera and oratorio performances in France and Italy. In 1991, Hans Werner Henze invited her to sing in his opera, “The
English Cat”, where the composer himself directed and conducted.
The production was broadcast on German Television. Shortly thereafter, Amy Rodenburg landed her first “fest” engagement
at the Landestheater Eisenach, where she cele-brated great success
as Tatyana (Eugene Onegin), La Contessa (Le Nozze di
Figaro), Agathe (Der Freischuetz), Rosalinde (Die
Fledermaus), La Femme (La Voix Humaine). In Hamburg, she
moved audiences with her portrayal of the Governess in
Britten’s “The Turn of the Screw”. In Edinburgh, Scotland last
summer, she sang the role of The Countess in “The Marriage
of Figaro”. Her concert repetoire extends from Handel to Rossini, from Villa-Lobos to
Britten. As well, she sings an extensive program of musicals and
operetta, which proves her enormous versatility as a performer. Since
1995 she lives near Hamburg, Germany and enjoys a busy career as a
freelance concert and opera singer.
